A bit about me
Who am I?
If you said that in Derek Zoolander’s voice then you can already appreciate my humour.
Hi, I’m Jenny and after 37 years of life, I feel pretty confident that I know who I am. I happily describe myself as unique, but let’s face it, we all are. I’m a high-energy, optimistic, single woman and a proud Dog Mom to 6lb Joey the ChiPom (Chihuahua-Pomeranian). Currently living in Calgary, Alberta where the winters are horrific, I’m patiently waiting for the Australian Government to offer me a Visa so I can immigrate to the land of gorgeous beaches, unique wildlife and delicious wine. Fingers crossed it’s the land of my future husband too! I’ll get into my obsession with Australia in a future post and share my long journey of moving there in another.
There are a lot of things that light me up and fill me with joy and I’ll be sharing about all of them on this website at some point. Check out my welcome post to get an idea of what they are and my favourites page which I’ll be regularly updating with the things that help make my life a little more awesome.
I grew up in Victoria but moved to Calgary at the end of 2010 to pursue my accounting career. I’m a CPA, CMA but realized that accounting doesn’t really inspire me up because it typically inhibits creativity. My Bachelor’s degree is in Psychology and I considered pursuing a career in consumer psychology but didn’t have confidence about this being a stable career choice. So I chose accounting and occasionally laugh at the fact that the struggling Oil & Gas economy in Alberta has led me to both being laid off (in 2015) and having a job contract end a few months early (in 2019). Thanks to a recent epiphany, I realized that I have a deep love for business in regards to operations, strategy and development, so this is where I’ll be directing my career. My vision is to work with entrepreneurs and businesses to help them achieve goals and streamline business operations. If you think I sound like someone you want to hire, check out more about working with me here.
My deep desire for knowledge and personal growth are credited to my parents and my first time working for lululemon, respectively. This leads me to spend a lot of time reading, listening to podcasts, taking courses online and digging into topics I want to learn more about by using my best friend, Google. I also love to spend time thinking and reflecting on life and the motivation behind our actions (hello Psych degree!). This leads to sharing my thoughts, opinions and experiences with anyone who will listen and has been a big motivation behind this website. In addition to sharing my personal stories to help others find comfort in similarities, I find incredible value in learning from people with different experiences to our own, and will be incorporating this into my future work.
It would be easy to go on but I’ll save that for the blog! I’ve shared a lot on my Instagram page so check that out to start and expect to see more from me both on there and on here as I continue to pursue my journey of living a life that fulfills me. If there’s a topic that you want to hear more about, please let me know!
